Discovering

Makari

Located on the gulf that shares its name, Makari is a peaceful area with postcard-like natural landscapes, rich in small coves and perfect spots to unwind.

The beaches of Makari, along with those of the nearby Castelluzzo and San Vito Lo Capo, are considered among the most beautiful in Western Sicily.

The Gulf of Makari is known for its series of small coves carved between dramatic cliffs and rocks touched by the wind and waves. Makari borders the Zingaro Nature Reserve, the first reserve established in Sicily, which stretches between the towns of San Vito Lo Capo and Castellammare del Golfo.

It offers seven kilometers of protected coastline to explore on foot, dotted with dwarf palms, watchtowers rising above the resort, including the Isulidda Tower, secret beaches, and untouched nature. Access is available from the north via San Vito Lo Capo or from the south through Scopello, famous for its traditional tuna fishery.

Attractions

A short distance from the village of Makari, you can dive into the crystal-clear waters of Caletta Rosa, Baia Santa Margherita, Cala dell’Isulidda, and Bue Marino. While relaxing on the beach at Baia Santa Margherita and watching the sunset, you can take in the stunning view dominated by Monte Cofano. On clear days, the horizon from the Gulf of Makari reveals the silhouettes of the Egadi Islands. Further wonders can be discovered by exploring the coast northward.

Baia Santa Margherita

Located between Makari and Castelluzzo with Monte Cofano as a backdrop, Santa Margherita Beach is never overcrowded. In summer, the area is closed to cars, and visitors can reach it by parking in Makari or Castelluzzo. From the parking areas, you can hop on a fun little train that takes you on a tour of the surrounding natural beauty. This is why we particularly recommend this beach if you have children. For them, riding the wheeled train is an exciting adventure, and on the beach, they can play safely.

Cala del Bue Marino

The small beach of Bue Marino is another truly spectacular spot, awarded in 2015 by Legambiente as the most beautiful beach in Italy. Characterized by white pebbles, it is especially loved by tourists at sunset when the sea glows with golden hues.

Cala dell’Isulidda

Here, you’ll find crystal-clear waters, sea-level caves, a sea stack, and opportunities for snorkeling.

Caletta Rosa

Caletta Rosa is remarkable for its soft pink flat rocks!
